Wyzwanie

The international courier company had to modernize its network of parcel machines (about 10,000 devices) to improve the process of receiving parcels. Until now, customers could only receive parcels by connecting vending machines to the mobile application, which limited the availability of the service. The Challenge consisted of equipping nearly 4,000 vending machines with pinpad keypads to enable the receipt of a parcel using a PIN code without the involvement of a smartphone, while maintaining the smooth implementation of the project on a mass scale.

Rozwiązanie

The team implemented modernization of parcel machines by installing pinpad terminals in the indicated devices. Each vending machine is equipped with a keypad for entering the receipt code, integrated into the existing parcel locker system. Thanks to this, customers can independently and conveniently pick up the package by entering the PIN code directly on the vending machine. The entire project was carried out comprehensively — from planning, through component logistics, to assembly and commissioning of pinpads — without disrupting the operation of automata and without involving technical resources on the customer's side.

Modernization has improved the process of handling shipments and increased the availability of the service for a wider audience. Customers have gained an alternative, simpler way of receiving packages, which has a positive impact on their satisfaction and convenience. The project has been completed in a short time (6 months) despite the large scale, thanks to which the courier company quickly noticed operational benefits — the number of unreceived parcels requiring manual handling decreased, and parcel machines became more friendly to users who do not use the application.

Technologie

Applied pinpad terminal compatible with customer's parcel machines, allowing secure PIN entry. The integration of the devices went smoothly with the existing IT infrastructure of the machine, so there was no need to replace the entire system. The project also included remote configuration and testing, which guaranteed smooth deployment at thousands of locations simultaneously.
