Woolworth — Energy Analysis and Management System (Energy Analyzer)
Wyzwanie
An international chain of retail stores managing facilities in many European countries has faced the challenge of effective monitoring and optimization of energy consumption. The client's key need was Standardization of energy data collection and reporting in different countries - so far there have been discrepancies due to local systems and protocols from energy suppliers. It was important for the management to obtain a uniform, comparable electricity consumption report for all stores, in line with the standards imposed by the main energy supplier (in this case the German one). In addition, the client wanted detect excessive energy consumption (anomaly, equipment failures) to better control operating costs. The key to the success of the project was centralization and automation — the system was to allow remote management of energy-consuming devices and eliminate manual work when collecting data. In a nutshell, challengehas resulted in a single, coherent energy management solution across hundreds of locations that will deliver savings and meet regulatory requirements for energy efficiency.
Rozwiązanie
We designed and implemented a dedicated platform Xaris Energy Analyzer, adapted to the needs of the chain of stores. This solution makes it possible Centralized management of energy data from all customer facilities — both at home and abroad — within a single, intuitive panel. The system is integrated with existing energy meters and sub-meters as well as HVAC equipment and lighting in stores to collect information on electricity, gas or water consumption in real time. Xaris Energy Analyzer aggregates data and automatically generates clear analysis and comparison reports, allowing you to compare energy consumption between different countries, regions and even individual stores. Built-in algorithms capture unusual spikes in wear — for example, when a facility experiences excessive power consumption, the system indicates this as an alert, which allows you to quickly identify a potential fault (e.g. faulty air conditioning) or inefficient practices. Moreover, the platform gives you the opportunity remote control selected devices in stores: authorized employees from the central office can, for example, change the heating/air conditioning temperature, reduce the intensity of lighting after closing hours or turn off remotely selected receivers if the analysis shows such a need. The entire implementation covered stores in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria — integrating a variety of energy infrastructures into a single standard. The effect is Unification of reporting — the board receives consistent reports and dashboards for all markets — and automation of energy management: many activities (from meter reading to control) are carried out without the intervention of local personnel, according to programmed schedules and saving scenarios.
Efekty biznesowe
Thanks to the implementation of the Energy Analyzer system, the customer gained a complete transparency of energy consumption in their stores and tools to actively manage this area. Optimized key processes — central monitoring made it possible to detect and eliminate energy-intensive procedures (e.g. unnecessary night lighting or too intense cooling outside store hours). As a result, she improved efficiency of energy management: management quickly identifies objects with above-average wear and can take corrective action. The standardization of reporting has made results from different countries comparable — the company headquarters can now easily identify best practices (stores with the lowest consumption per m²) and implement them wherever the results deviate from the norm. Central management The devices have brought additional operational benefits: emergency response (e.g. device left on) is almost instantaneous, and automatic schedules (e.g. night heating reduction) operate in all stores without the need for manual intervention, relieving the burden on local staff. In business terms, the network has achieved Tangible savings — reducing energy consumption directly reduces the operating costs of stores, and according to preliminary analyzes, the system will allow cutting up to a dozen percent of existing utility bills. In addition, the company has gained full control over the flow and use of energy, which translates into better investment decisions (e.g. it is easier to justify the modernization of equipment based on hard data on their energy consumption). It is worth emphasizing that the implementation of the system also helps to comply with applicable regulations and environmental standards — Energy Analyzer facilitates energy efficiency reporting and implementation of remedial measures so that the network complies with regulations on energy saving.
Technologie
Xaris Energy Analyzer Platform is an IoT and analytics solution with client-server (cloud) architecture. The stores have installed modules that collect data from meters and devices (wireless energy flow sensors, intelligent relays controlling, for example, air conditioning or lighting). Real-time data is sent to a central cloud, where it is analyzed. Dashboard available through the web browser allows you to view indicators (energy consumption, costs, CO₂ emissions) at different aggregation levels — from a single store, to the whole country or the entire network. Implemented data analysis algorithms identify trends and deviations; the system can send automatic alerts (e.g. email/SMS) in case of detection of anomalies exceeding the established thresholds. The control layer allows remote execution of actions — e.g. integration with BMS (Building Management System) allows you to change temperature settings or turn on/off devices from the control panel. The whole has been designed with rapid deployment — the hardware modules are compact and installed non-invasively (plugged into existing switchboards), and the software has an intuitive interface, which minimizes the need for training. It has also been taken care of scalability Solutions: the platform supports additional connected objects almost plug&play, so extending the system to new stores or countries does not require large expenditures of time.
Kluczowe korzyści
- Optimization of energy processes: Automated data collection and analysis have improved energy management — Eliminated manual reporting, and optimization decisions (e.g. adjustment of lighting power, HVAC schedules) are made on the basis of reliable data, which improves processes and reduces energy waste.
- Higher efficiency and cost savings: Thanks to the system, the network has achieved much better control over media consumption. It is estimated that the full use of the Energy Analyzer function will translate into 10-30% savings on energy costs on an annual basis (by detecting inefficient equipment and eliminating excessive consumption).
- Standardization and compliance with standards: The introduction of a uniform reporting standard in all countries facilitated the comparison of results and ensured regulatory compliance Concerning energy efficiency. The reports from the system support the operation in accordance with European directives and local requirements — the company is prepared for energy audits and can demonstrate the progress achieved.
- Central management and full control: The board and managers gained a single tool to monitor hundreds of facilities in real time. Centralization allows them to react quickly to problems (e.g. air conditioning failures) regardless of the location of the store, as well as implement global savings policies (e.g. lowering the heating temperature by 1°C in all stores at once). Full data insight also gives you greater control over costs and energy budget planning.
- Integration without additional investment: The system was developed in such a way that easily connected to existing devices and meters without the need for costly infrastructure replacement. Thanks to this, the project was implemented quickly and without downtime, and employees did not have to undergo long training - the interface is simple and friendly. This means that implementation time and achievement of benefits was very short, and the company saved on expenses that usually accompany the implementation of new systems (training, equipment modernization, etc.).
Oszczędności
The Energy Analyzer system generates savings in many fields. Financially direct: the detection of inefficient devices and procedures results in a tangible decrease in energy bills (mentioned 10-30% depending on the facility). For such a large retail network, this means saved hundreds of thousands of euros per year. Temporarily: reporting automation saves dozens of hours of work that local managers previously had to spend writing down meter readings and preparing reports — now everything happens in the background and data is available at hand. Resourceful: thanks to the intuitive panel, there was no need to hire new energy specialists or intensive staff training — current employees easily assimilated the system operation, which in itself is a saving (no training costs). What's more, quick implementation and the lack of the need to upgrade the infrastructure (the system was connected to the existing distribution cabinets and networks) meant savings on installation costs — no major construction and installation work was done. Indirectly, the network also saves on penalties or penalty charges related to excessive energy consumption, because now it has a tool for precise control and regulation of consumption in accordance with the established limits. In conclusion, the implementation of Energy Analyzer is an investment that pays for itself quickly and generates lasting savings both financial and operational.
